By now, you should be convinced that video is not only critical, but doable! If you are yet to be convinced, keep reading over it until you are! Along the way, though, you may run into a few problems. If you find any of these obstacles in your way, here are a few ideas to help:

1. Your sound is lousy. If your sound is picking up too much background noise, or if your voice simply isn’t loud enough, you’ll need to make some changes. First, check the settings on your camera. It might be possible to adjust the audio settings on there, to help. If not, or if moving closer to the mic doesn’t work, you might need to buy a lapel microphone, or one that will simply sit on the table in front of you.

2. Shaky video. One word: Tripod! There are fabulous, low-cost tripods out there, from simple table-top options, to crazy bendy-legged ones, to ones that will stick on the side of a wall or building. Tripods are not as expensive as you might think, either. There is no longer an excuse for giving your viewers seasickness!

3. You look like a robot. If your finished version looks unnatural, there is only one thing you can do — practice more. Go back and read the section “Practice Makes Perfect,” as there are some great tips in there. As you practice your comfort level will rise, but don’t get to the point where it looks entirely rehearsed and unnatural.

4. You are boring. Technically, you seem to be doing everything right – but you’re so boring, even your dog falls asleep! If this is your issue, you are not conveying your enthusiasm for your topic. Even double entry bookkeeping can be interesting if you communicate your excitement. Don’t try and be overly effervescent if you are not naturally so, but do accentuate your personality just a little bit! (Note: If you’re not passionate about the subject matter, take another look at your business niche. Are you sure you have chosen the right subject area?)

5. The information isn’t compelling. Very few of us have that type of personality that we are able to make even the most mundane content material seem exhilarating. But nevertheless, we still need to be engaged with the content. If what you’re presenting isn’t of interest to your audience, you’re going to lose them. Check over your keyword research and find out what people are actively looking for in your niche and remember to focus on those areas.

It all boils down to finding out what is holding you back from doing this and getting into video production as soon as possible. Take a deep breath and dive right in — put your video camera on right now! Don’t think about it too much, just go for it, and see what you come up with on your first take!
